Family
Ever since our daughter was born in 2024, I've been fortunate enough that family life has taken up most of my time. This year's post will therefore be short on other topics. It will also be short on this topic, to respect the privacy of my family.
NixCI
Lots of effort went into NixCI this year. It is by far the coolest project I've worked on so far. Flakiness-resistant local-first CI/CD is something I was convinced was impossible until we managed to build it into NixCI.
Customers are using it in production now, both the hosted installation and self-hosted installations of their own. And I can finally have all my projects' CI passing every time:
Centjes
Last year I introduced Centjes
I've managed to progress Centjes to the point that I was able to automate all my tax declarations with it. It's allowed me to overestimate my tax liabilities to save accordingly and never be surprised by a tax bill.
With the right centjes query, it gets really simple: Every time this number turns red, I know I need to put more money aside to pay taxes.
New workstation
It had been a while since I had built a new workstation, so I decided it was a good business decision I wanted a new one. After spending a few weeks sending parts back and forth with support, I finally got it working:
This machine is definitely overkill now, but I wanted to make sure it would still be overkill in three years, so now I have a 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 9970X with 256GB RAM, two 4TB NVMe SSDs, two 12TiB HDDs and a 25 Gbps fiber connection. I'm not retiring my old machines yet either. They are now used as build machines that help each other.
Conclusion
In 2026 I will focus on enjoying family time while building NixCI out further.
